Born in the French Alps from non-skiing parents, Loulou skied for the first time in some open field at age 5. It was right after World War 2, and his first skis, size 210-cm, were made of wood, no metal edges, no release bindings, and the laced boots were made of leather. He never made a turn until age 11 when he dropped the ski length to size to 190cm. The competitive spirit was definitely there, and the competition was fierce. "We didnt know any better", Loulou said. From his small town's modest Junior High School, came some of the biggest names in skiing: J.C.Killy, J.P. and J.N. Augert to name a few. When time came for regional competitions, it was the Georges Mauduit, Leo Lacroix, and other great skiers that made the field. How little did they know, that they were to make the record books. Olympic and world champions no wonder the competition was so intense. But life moves on, and after a decade teaching and coaching skiing around the world, it was time to get down to business. Throughout the past few decades, Loulou has owned and operated one of the top ski shops in the United States. Plus, as a noted figure in the ski industry, Loulou has had the opportunity of serving on the Ski Retailer's Association board of directors, as well as several other ski industry associations, and been involved in many ski related projects. Now retired from the ski business, as a ski shop owner, Loulou has now decided that it's time to move on and pursue other interests. Throughout the years, Loulou has had he opportunity to travel the far reaches of the World. At the time of his visit to Egypt, the Sphinx was not totally uncovered yet, while the Sydney Opera House was still surrounded by cranes and scaffolding, and the Outback of Australia were still waiting to be discovered by Hollywood. From the Inca Pyramids of Mexico to the geysers of Iceland, and the primitive ski slopes of Northern Manchuria, to the Huashan Mountain, and the Terra Cotta army soldiers of central China, the passage through the Valley of the Emperors and the famed Great Wall were a dream come true for him. Fiji was still an undeveloped paradise island and Hawaii had just become the newest American State. Who could have guessed in those days, that the Cascades and the Rocky Mountain ranges would become home to Loulou, and that Seattle, mostly known as the gateway to the Alaska gold rush, would become the capital of the aerospace industry and the computer age. We truly hope this site will open new horizons to you, as several decades ago, some old vintage skis did for Loulou. |
